  • March 13-15 – Canoecopia 2009

  • April 24 – Pub Opens for the Season

  • April 25 Paddling Fitness:  Maximizing Performance and Minimizing Injury
    This is a one day class where we'll take a comprehensive look at fitness in general and what it takes to be "fit" for paddling.  We'll discuss fitness principles and what you can do to maximize your performance and minimize injury.  We'll also discuss ergonomics and common orthopedic injuries and what can be done to prevent them.  This is a hands-on class where you'll learn paddling-specific exercises that can be done in the gym or at home with minimal equipment.  The goal of this class is for the participant to leave with a solid understanding of what it takes to get in shape and then maintain fitness for a lifetime of enjoyable paddling and what it takes to prevent injuries both on and off the water.

    This course is lead by:  Brian Staniszewski who is a physical therapist from Washington, IL.   He has a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from Bradley University and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.   Brian and his wife live an outdoor lifestyle, enjoying canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, trail running, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, and photography.   He competes in paddling triathlons and mountain bike races.  He took his first kayak class at the Bear Paw. 

  • May 2-3 – Marge Cline & Ray McClain Memorial Spring River Races
    Canoe and Kayak Slalom Race on Saturday and hosted by Bear Paw Outdoor Adventures. The Slalom Course will be set at Hanson’s Rapids on the Wolf River . This race will also be part of the Buttercup series this year, and all kayakers are welcome to try in this fun citizen race. The Downriver Event will be held on Sunday, the course will be determined depending on water levels. Awards for each event will be held at the Bear Paw Pub after the races. $10 per day

  • May 16-19 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor Certification Course with Charlie Walbridge
    This a 4 day Course through the American Canoe Association Cost: $500

    Charlie Walbridge is a nationally-known whitewater safety expert with almost 40 years of river running experience. He has paddled rivers throughout the US and Canada and made several first descents. He was an A-ranked C-1 slalom and wildwater racer in the mid-70’s and worked part-time as a river guide until the mid-eighties. He has collected and published reports of U.S. whitewater fatalities for over 30 years.  He is a well-known writer on whitewater safety issues and has written books and magazine articles on the subject.     River Cruises, Mountain Bike Rides, Store Sale and Party!

  • June 27-July 2 – First Descents Camp
    First Descents provides whitewater kayaking and other outdoor adventure experiences to promote emotional, psychological and physical healing for young adults with cancer. This six-day whitewater kayaking program is in White Lake , WI . Yes, Wisconsin . Here you will be challenged by the beautiful Wolf River . All programs are run by First Descents but we usually partner with a local outfitter for logistical support. In Wisconsin First Descents has partnered with Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort as our outfitters and to provide accommodations. www.firstdescents.org

  • July 16-17 – Swiftwater Rescue Clinic WausauWhitewater Course
    This 2 day class teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for people in distress. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and on simple, commonly used skills. Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins, also are practiced. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context. Scott Berry from Bear Paw Outdoors has 20 years of paddling and river rescue experience. He is also a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Wolf River and a volunteer on the Wolf River Search and Rescue Squad. Sign up at www.wausauwhitewater.org

  • July 17-20 – Women’s Whitewater Festival at Bear Paw
    Whitewater KayakingFestival for women. Guest pro paddler Anna Lesvesque of Girls at Play along with other accomplished female instructors will offer clinics on everything from beginning kayaking, river running and rolling, to play paddling and creeking. Hosted by Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort.

    Cost $250 including use of our gear; $190 to use your own gear. Also included this year, lunch for the 3 days and Saturday night dinner. Daily schedule coming soon.

  • July 22-24 – Family Paddlesport Camp
    This year Bear Paw will offer a unique family program. We will focus on active outdoor activity for the whole family. Perfect for any combination of family members. From mothers and sons to fathers and daughters or grandparents and grandkids, all will enjoy and learn a new lifelong sport. We will introduce the world of kayaking to you and your family. Each day we will set out to area lakes and streams in boats n search of wildlife and fun. Enjoy the community bonfire, and the great outdoors. This camp is suitable for ages 6 on up. Cost is $149 per person; lunches, 1 cookout, and gear are all included. We have many different types of lodging and camping for you to choose from to make this a memorable family experience.

  • August 1-2 – Youth Kayaking Festival
    This new 2 day event will celebrate kids and teens in Whitewater kayaking adventures.
    We will offer a variety of mini clinics geared for the young paddler, from beginner to advanced in skill level. Clinics will include: Beginning kayaking skills, river skills, Rolling and Playboating. Coached by young standout paddlers like Jake Berry and Ben Peters, kayakers will find inspiration and fun in this exciting weekend. Cost is $99 for the weekend, gear and lunches and a Saturday night cookout is included.

  • August 22-23 – Pre Wolfman Event at Bear Paw
    Test your skills before the Wolfman . Hosted by Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort

  • September 12-15 – Annual Wolfman Triathlon
    sponsored by Wolf River Territory Tourism Association

  • September 25-27 – Estrogen Equinox
    This annual women’s weekend is filled with adventure, fun and rejuvenation. Kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, and relaxation along with crafts and camaraderie round out this very popular weekend. Great for mothers, daughters, friends and sisters. Hosted by Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort.

    This years cost is $120 without meals: $160 with meals( included meals are 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 1 dinner) Event Schedule coming soon.

  • October 3 – Biketoberfest
    A fun day of exploring the Nicolet-Roche Trail System and others. Refreshments and party to follow the day.
