Frequently asked questions and answers:
What's the best type of clothing to wear when on the river?
Most importantly, leave the cotton behind. We suggest clothing made of material that sheds water - neoprene, for example. Long underwear tops made of poly-pro are great, because they keep you warm even when wet. We also recommend a wind-resistant jacket, without a hood if you are paddling on whitewater. When you receive your confirmation for a Bear Paw trip, we will include a list of suggested clothing.
My family has a non-paddler among us. What else is there to do in the area?
Lots! If you like hiking, you can check out 10 miles of trails adjacent to the resort. Or try a walk along the river. About 20 minutes by car, you'll find a beautiful virgin white pine forest, with an active heron rookery. The Bear also has extensive mountain biking trails.
If shopping is your interest, visit the arts and crafts shops in nearby Lakewood . While you're there, take a tour of the Lakewood winery. Or just take it easy spend the afternoon relaxing at a one of several nearby beaches. Check out www.wolfriverterritory.com
Do you have maid service?
No. Your room will be cleaned and ready for your arrival, but maid service is not available during your stay.
Can I bring my pet?
Some units allow well behaved pets with a $10 a night fee for registerd pets and a $50 a night fee for unregistered pets. Pets may be in the campground or the rustic cabins, but they must be on a leash at all times. Please don't leave your pet behind when you go paddling or biking, and be mindful of other guests. If your pet is uncomfortable around other people, it may be best to leave him at home.
What is your cancellation policy?
A refund will be given if you cancel your lodging or program 21days in advance of your scheduled reservation. A $25 processing fee will be charged on each cancellation.
What's the weather like?
We'd like to say that it's always sunny and warm, and the river is running high. But it wouldn't be true. We've found that if you dress for bad weather, a good time can be had. Unless weather is severe, we carry out our scheduled educational programs - rain or shine. Give us a call if you'd like to know the river level, or use the links on the main page to access the USGS gauge.
Can I make a telephone call?
Yes, we have a courtesy phone on site, where you can make free local calls or place credit card or collect long distance calls. But phones are not available in any of our rooms.
Can you hold a space for me?
Unfortunately we can't. We require deposits on all lodging and programs.
Did the tornado really blow those kayaks up in that tree?
Sometimes the answer is yes and sometimes it is no, just depends on who you ask.
