At Bear Paw Outdoors we are dedicated to adventure and fun! Our trips and classes are fantastic learning experiences that feature safety and fun. These trips are designed for people who are inquisitive about the natural environment, and want to explore what the natural world has to offer.

We are a company that is 8 years old, and we have 50 plus combined years of experience helping people safely have fun, exhilarating and life changing experiences in the beautiful North woods of Wisconsin . Our staff is free-spirited and adventurous, from a variety of backgrounds. We are unified by a passion to provide quality service throughout all that we offer.

Level 1 Kayak for the River

River Kayaking-Basics
This day long adventure is perfect for the enthusiastic learner looking for a new experience, or a head start into whitewater kayaking. Experience the thrill of the river on your first day paddling! After a quick stop at the lake, you’ll learn the basics of kayaking on the scenic Wolf River . The emphasis and progression is to move you comfortably from the flat water of a lake to moving class I and II rapids. You will practice and learn basic paddle strokes and river running skills. Your sense of adventure will enjoy the challenge, while your playful side will love how much fun you will have on the river! Minimum age 14.
Cost:$125 [1 day] Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

River Kayaking-Tactics
This session is to build on the Basics session. After completing the Basics course, you will benefit by learning better, more efficient ways to run the river. You will hone your newly learned paddle strokes, and build on your knowledge by learning river features, and learning how to use these features to your benefit when running the river. We’ll also cover basic river safety topics and river-reading skills. This is the way to begin a life-long passion, you’ll love this fun and exciting course! Minimum age 14.
Cost:$125 [1 day] Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

Kayak Rolling Clinic
Gain confidence on the river and learn how to roll your kayak! Get personal instruction, assistance, and feedback from our experienced instructors. Minimum age 14.
Cost:$75 [4-5 hours] Includes lunch and gear.

3 Day Kayak Immersion Course
Sign up for the above 3 clinics consecutively and pay $300 (A savings of $25).

Level 2 Kayak for the River

These courses are for the advanced beginner who has taken the Level 1 classes or equivalent. You should feel comfortable with the paddle strokes, be able to do basic river maneuvers, and have been working on your roll and braces.

River Running for Kayak
Build on your skills learned in our Basics and Tactics courses. This session takes you out to faster and longer rapids. You will learn boat control and really learn to use the current to work for you. By the end of the day you will be paddling class 2 rapids with style and grace. Minimum age 14.
Cost:$125 [1 day] Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

River Running and Waterfalls
Section 4 for the Wolf through the Menomonee reservation offers scenic paddling and exciting waterfalls and drops. Join our vertically inclined instructors in the art of running these drops.  This day long course will focus on honing your skills and upping your comfort level in running bigger drops. You will learn about scouting, safety, stroke timing, boofing, balance, and shallow slides. Prerequisite basic whitewater class and a river running clinic or equivalent, a roll is helpful. Minimum age 14.
Cost:$175 [1 day]
Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

Level 3 or Intermediate Kayaking

Northern Trifecta
Join us for three days of excitement and challenge while we run 3 of our local famous rivers. We’ll run the Red, Section IV of the Wolf and the Peshtigo and refine your technique, discover the best play spots, push your limits, and gain confidence! Whether you’re looking to just get out and paddle, or really work on technique, this adventure is sure to fuel your passion for paddling! You should be comfortable running class II Rivers and have a river roll. Minimum age 16.
Cost: $399 [3 days] Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

Kayak Surfing Clinic
Experience one of the most invigorating sensations of kayaking – surfing on river waves and holes. Improve your technique through edge-awareness drills, and visit local play spots where we’ll work on front surfing, side surfing, carving across a wave and spinning in a hole. This course will build on skills learned in Whitewater 101, River-running, and Rolling.
Minimum age 14.
Cost:$125 [1 day] Includes lunch, transportation to and from the river, and your gear.

Families, clubs, schools, youth groups, and business groups have all found that Bear Paw is a great setting for any gathering! Discover the excitement of the Wolf River through one of our kayaking or canoeing adventures, bike or hike the many trails, or let us help you create your own adventure for a gathering filled with good times and memories. We can set up any trip for your group!

Private Kayak or Canoe Lessons

Private kayak and canoe lessons are available most days with advance notice. Our top notch instructors will help you get started or take it to the next level. Please contact our staff for pricing on programs with 5 or more participants.
